Mid to late main crop.  Outdoor plot.

 

Ideal for producing Brussels Sprouts over a long period.  Large, deep green in colour.

 

Sow March-April in trays at 13c or in shallow drills in seedbed.  Thin or prick off to set plants 5cm (2") apart.  Harden off greenhouse plants.  Plant out to growing site when 15cm (6") tall, 60cm (24") apart.  Maturity October to March.

Later sowings into a seed bed very lightly covering with soil.  Thin to 5cm apart and plant into growing site 40 - 50cm apart in September or October.

Early sowings can be made in a cold frame or under cloches.  In mild areas, sow in October under glass for really early spring use.

 

 OUTDOORS.

 

Sow very thinly in drills 1.5cm deep with 25 cm between rows.  Carrot fly is attracted to thinnings, so try to avoid thinning at all.  If plants are overcrowded, pull alternate roots when small and use whole.

Later sowings in the growing site 1cm (1/2") deep in rows 30cm (12") apart.  Thin out the seedlings in two stages until spacings of 15cm (6") between plants are achieved.  Onions require a very fertile soil.  Dig the onion bed in the autumn incorporating manure or compost.
